The Canals at Baden Hall is a purpose-built canal-style match and pleasure water approximately 14 metres wide, set in tranquil grounds with one bank bordered by mature willow trees. The water is modelled on a classic canal with ledge shelves running down from the far bank — 3 feet deep and 2 metres wide — and a steep shelf down from the pegs, perfectly replicating the features and fishing experience of a real canal environment. The clay bottom runs to a maximum depth of 9 feet with an average of 7 feet throughout. Twenty pegs are set across grass banks fitted with brand new wooden platforms, providing comfortable and practical swims for anglers of all ages and abilities. The Canals is an ideal water for the whole family, welcoming anglers of all skill levels from complete beginners through to experienced match anglers. It is very well stocked with a strong head of silver fish, F1s and hybrids, with bream reaching 7lb. The stock has recently been topped up with over 4,000lb of additional silver fish following a successful netting of the runs waters, ensuring an excellent and abundant head of fish throughout. The accessible layout, close parking and comfortable platforms make it one of the most beginner-friendly and family-suitable waters on the complex. Tactically, the Canals fishes in a very similar manner to a real canal venue. Both the near and far margins are consistently productive, but the deeper middle channel should never be overlooked, particularly when targeting the larger fish. Pole fishing to 14 metres is the most precise and effective method for reaching the far shelf, with a small bomb or feeder rod and float fishing also producing bites regularly throughout the day — ideal for keeping newer anglers engaged with consistent action. The far shelf at 3 feet deep is a natural holding area for silvers, while the steeper near-side shelf produces well for fish moving close in. Proven baits on the Canals include meat, corn, pellet, paste, caster, maggot and floaters, covering all presentation styles from pole cupping to feeder and float. Small regular introductions of loose feed or cupped bait tend to outperform heavy baiting on this style of water, keeping fish active and competing over the feed without overloading the swim. Groundbait and micro pellet mixes work well when targeting bream on the feeder, while lighter maggot and caster presentations on a float or pole will pick out roach, hybrids and F1s throughout the session.
