Dam Pool is one of Baden Hall Fishery's most intimate and rewarding carp waters, spanning 3.5 acres over 300 yards in length and averaging 75 yards wide. The lake is divided by a bridge into two distinct sections — the Lower Dam and the Upper Dam — each offering a different fishing experience and tactical approach. The clay bottom provides a solid base for bait presentation throughout, with marginal shelves and overhanging trees creating well-defined features to target. Depths reach a maximum of 10 feet with an average of 7 feet, with the Lower Dam being the deeper of the two sections. The 23 well-maintained pegs are set across bark-chipped staging areas and spacious grass banks, giving anglers comfortable and practical swims for day and overnight sessions. Recent changes to the stock have transformed Dam Pool into a predominantly carp-focused water, with much of the silver fish and bream population removed to allow the carp to thrive. The result is a cleaner, more focused carp fishing experience with fish now reaching 30lb-plus and a current lake record of 32lb. The carp in Dam Pool are well-known for patrolling the margins regularly, making close-range stealthy angling one of the most consistent and rewarding approaches on the water. Both day and night tickets are available. Tactically, Dam Pool divides neatly between its two sections. The Lower Dam, being the deeper section, is the more productive area during cooler periods or unsettled weather when fish push down into the deeper water. The Upper Dam, while shallower, sees fish following warm winds and feeding actively close to the surface in warmer weather, making it a prime area for surface fishing and margin tactics from spring through summer. The margins across both sections are highly productive year-round, with carp frequently found just off the marginal shelf or tight under overhanging trees. A stealthy approach and minimal disturbance around the peg is absolutely critical on this water. Proven bait choices on Dam Pool include Mainline Cell and Essential Cell, Sticky Baits Krill and Manilla, and newer options including DNA Bug and Secret 7 which have been producing outstanding results. Surface fishing with floaters is particularly effective in warmer weather when fish are cruising the upper layers. For rig selection, stiff hinge rigs and chod rigs perform well over marginal shelves and around detritus, multi rigs and KD rigs offer flexibility in bait presentation across varying lakebed types, while ronnie rigs and zig rigs are effective when fish are moving through the water column. Surface rigs with controllers come into their own from late spring through summer when carp are active near the top. Dam Pool combines the excitement and consistency of a runs water with genuine quality carp fishing, offering something for both the angler building confidence with regular action and the experienced specimen hunter targeting the bigger residents.
