Baden Hall Fishery
1 / 4About
Middle Pool is one of Baden Hall Fishery's most popular and prolific waters, stretching nearly 500 yards in length across approximately 8 acres, with a maximum depth of 9 feet and an average of 6 feet throughout. The lake features a clay bottom with an old stream bed running through the centre, providing a firmer area of lakebed that consistently attracts fish and offers an ideal target for bait presentation. With 53 pegs across a mixture of woodchip-based and grassy banks and wooden platforms, there is ample room and variety for all styles of angler. Two dedicated campervan pegs are available for those wishing to fish from their vehicle — these must be pre-booked alongside the fishing session. This is a true runs water, stocked with hundreds of hard-fighting common and mirror carp ranging from lively doubles up to 28lb, with a current lake record of 28lb 5oz set by regular angler Stuart Moss with a remarkable haul of 125 carp during a single 48-hour session in 2013. Middle Pool is equally productive throughout the year — exceptionally prolific during the warmer months, and reliably active through winter when many other waters slow down significantly. Both day and night tickets are available on this water. Tactically, Middle Pool rewards observation and adaptability above all else. Surface fishing is especially productive during warmer months, with floating baits accounting for large numbers of fish even on sunny winter days. In colder conditions, targeting the firmer ground along the old stream bed in the deeper areas of the lake consistently produces results. Polarized glasses are invaluable for spotting carp cruising the upper layers or identifying the most productive areas of the clay bottom. Staying mobile and adjusting your approach as fish behaviour changes throughout the day will maximise your catch rate on this highly stocked water. In terms of bait, Middle Pool carp are opportunistic feeders and respond well to a wide range of options. Mainline Cell and Essential Cell are consistently top performers, with Sticky Baits, Dynamite Monster Tiger Nut and newer options including DNA Bug and Secret 7 all producing strong results. Floating baits are essential for surface fishing during warmer periods, while pellets and particles are excellent for prebaiting and creating a feeding response in and around high-density areas of the lake. Almost any rig can be productive given the high stock levels, making Middle Pool an excellent venue for experimenting with different presentations. Surface rigs are essential for warm weather top fishing, chod rigs handle any softer clay patches effectively, ronnie rigs perform well with pop-ups and wafters across the lakebed, and PVA bag rigs are highly effective for creating concentrated bait zones around the stream bed and other productive features.
